Library Assistant

The Riverdale Public Library is seeking a friendly, dependable, and service-oriented Library Assistant to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys helping people, working with books and social media, and contributing to a welcoming public library environment.

The Library Assistant provides excellent customer service to library patrons and supports the day-to-day operations of the library. Responsibilities may include:

• Check out and check in library materials
• Answer patron inquiries by phone, email, or in person
• Perform library opening and closing procedures
• Assist patrons with locating information and resources using the library catalog, website, and databases
• Keep the library, circulation desk, and workroom neat and tidy
• Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of programs and events for adult patrons
• Maintain and update library website to ensure accurate, current, and engaging content
• Create promotional materials and social media content to promote library programs, events, services, resources, and news, and manage the library's social media accounts

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with people of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred:

• Previous library, customer service, office, or public-service experience.
• Familiarity with library collections, library circulation systems, or common office technology. Previous experience with Koha or other Library systems, a plus.
• Experience with social media.

This is a part time position, offering 16 hours per week, which includes one evening and occasional Saturdays. The schedule is as follows: Mondays 3:00 – 8:00 pm, Wednesdays 2:00 – 6:00 pm, Thursdays 10:00 – 5:00 pm. Additional coverage as needed.

Rate of Pay $16.50 per hour
